Signed as an undrafted free agent, Carolina Mudcats first baseman Jerrud Sabourin has developed into a true underdog story. The model of consistency, Sabourin leads the Carolina League in batting average at .318 and is fourth on the team in hits and plays great defense at first base. ZEBULON – After rain postponed the series opener, the Carolina Mudcats and Potomac Nationals played a double header on Tuesday. Carolina broke their six-game losing streak with an 11-3 victory in game one, but dropped game two 3-1 to split the doubleheader. Both games were seven innings.

After falling behind early and attempting to claw back into it, the Carolina Mudcats couldn’t complete the rally as they fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 6-4 on Wednesday night. With the loss, Carolina fell a season-high 18 games under .500 at 20-38. After being shut out on Tuesday night, the Carolina Mudcats returned the favor by shutting out the Wilmington Blue Rocks by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday night. The win brings the Mudcats' record to 19-32 on the season. Left-handed starting pitcher Shawn Morimando dominated the Blue Rocks through six innings, giving up only three hits and two walks. Morimando never allowed a base runner past second base in his six innings of work.

The Quincy, California native, the owner of a Carolina League-leading five wins and the league’s fourth best ERA at 2.47 has been the ace of the Carolina staff thus far in his ten starts this season. ZEBULON – The Carolina Mudcats lost a heartbreaker to the Lynchburg Hillcats at Five County Stadium on Saturday night 9-8. Carolina grabbed a big lead early, allowed the Hillcats to tie it up by the middle of the game, and allowed Lynchburg to take the lead late. The Mudcats led 5-1 before allowing eight unanswered runs. The loss dropped the Mudcats record to 13-22 on the year.

Coming off a double header sweep of the Salem Sox on Thursday, the Carolina Mudcats returned to Five County Stadium on Friday night to face off against the Lynchburg Hillcats looking to extend the winning streak to three games. With the stars of Lizard Lick Towing in attendance, the Mudcats were not able to do that however, falling to the Hillcats by a final score of 10-3.

The loss drops the Mudcats record to 11-16 after the Nationals took three out of four games. Mudcats starting pitcher Cody Anderson struggled early but settled down to throw six innings, giving up 11 hits, five runs, all earned, with five strikeouts, one hit batsmen, but no batters walked.
