Despite allowing the Frederick Keys to tie the score or take the lead on three separate occasions, the Carolina Mudcats were able to keep the lead when it mattered, defeating the Keys 6-5 on Thursday night. The win allowed Carolina (25-19, 47-67) to keep the division lead over Myrtle Beach.

It’s not often that a player can lead a team in batting average, home runs and runs batted in after missing a month of the season, but Carolina Mudcats second baseman Joey Wendle is doing just that. What a first full season in the minors Wendle is having and he has jumped into the mix with the other talented middle infielders in the organization. There is talk a promotion may be coming for him very soon, but in the meantime there are a few things he is working on.
