Sailing with the Clippers: 8/15/13 to 8/21/13
With 12 games remaining in the 2013 season it appears as though the Clippers have run out of time. At 64-68, Columbus stands 7.5 games back of the Wild Card spot and even further in the International League West at 9 affairs. That said, there have been some good (and some bad) performances over the past week and the IBI's Ethan Day recaps the week that was for the Clippers in his weekly notebook.

Santos’ clutch hitting thrusts Clippers past Indians
Locked in a 2-2 tie heading into the top of the eighth inning, Columbus catcher Omir Santos smacked a two-out triple into right field to put the Clippers ahead of the Indian Indians.

Despite being out-hit by the Indianapolis Indians eight to six, the Columbus Clippers squeaked by with a 4-2 victory Thursday at Victory Field.

Sands' two-out double subdues Clippers, Matsuzaka
Columbus right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka glided through the first five innings of play before Indianapolis right fielder Jerry Sands stroked a two-out bases-clearing double in the sixth to top the Clippers 3-2 Wednesday.

Carson paces Columbus to 4-1 win over Louisville
Center fielder Matt Carson’s three RBI performance helped clinch a series sweep against the Louisville Bats with a 4-1 victory Friday at Huntington Park. After knocking in infielders Nate Spears and Justin Toole with a groundball single to center field in the bottom of the third inning, Carson provided the Clippers with some extra breathing room in the eighth with a solo bomb into the left field bleachers.

Matsuzaka shuts down Louisville in 8-3 victory
Columbus right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka is pitching with like he has something to prove and he certainly showed that in a 8-3 win against the Louisville Bats Thursday.

Any hopes of the Clippers reaching the playoffs in 2013 are fading fast. After another mediocre 3-4 week, Columbus finds themselves 6.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and 11 games out of first place in the International League West. Toledo tops Columbus with 9-6 victory
The Columbus Clippers battled back from a 5-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom half of the third but ended up on the losing end of the stick as the Toledo Mud Hens struck for four more runs in the latter part of the game to seal a 9-6 win Wednesday.

Salazar dominates as Clippers blow out Buffalo 8-0
The Columbus Clippers lost their no-hit bid with two outs in the ninth innings but regardless, the end result was still a masterpiece. Led by yet another spectacular outing by right-hander Danny Salazar, the Clippers trumped the Buffalo Bisons 8-0 Friday.

Romero, Bisons drub Clippers 5-1
A four-run outburst in the top of the second inning by the Buffalo lead to the Columbus Clippers' demise as the fell 5-1 to the Bisons Thursday. Southpaw Ricky Romero notched a solid outing for Buffalo, holding the Clippers to one run on five hits in six innings. He also managed to strike out seven batters en route to his third win of the season.

Salazar could provide Indians big boost in stretch run
Right-hander Danny Salazar put himself on the map after his dominant big-league debut against the Toronto Blue Jays back on July 11. But as the Major League playoffs loom and the Cleveland Indians in need of some extra help in their bullpen, the 23-year-old could soon be called upon to fill a role unfamiliar to him. The Clippers are staying afloat with a solid month of July where they went a respectable 16-15. Their starting pitching lead by Danny Salazar, Trevor Bauer and Daisuke Matsuzaka continues to be a bright spot for the team though the offense is sporadic, having big games at times and then going completely cold.
