Trend Spotting: Spring optimism abounds
ogers Hornsby once said "People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." In a special edition of Trend Spotting, the IBI's Michael Hattery brings in other IBI writers Jim Pete and Steve Orbanek to chat about the Indians rotation and their outlook for this season.

Trend Spotting: Ryan Raburn, regression candidate
The Indians bench last year was constructed much differently than many of the past. It was a strength of the team with Ryan Raburn at the forefront of the Goon Squad as perhaps a goon’s goon of sorts. The IBIs Michael Hattery takes a deep look into the production of Raburn last year and provides data and analysis the suggests he is a regression candidate. But why and how much?

Trend Spotting: On Larry Doby, Jim Thome and a statue travesty
Last weekend at Tribe Fest the Indians unveiled their plans for a Jim Thome statue to be placed in this ballpark and a ceremony for the unveiling on August 2nd. While Thome is one of the organization's greatest players of all time and he is a former fan favorite, this announcement is puzzling to many considering his departure from the team in 2002 and so many other former great Indians who were not given the honor. The IBI's Michael Hattery holds nothing back in his criticism of the decision.

Trend Spotting: The definitive Joe Wendle
Joe Wendle has become an increasingly polarizing prospect in the Indians system as his value is all over the map according to national pundits. Some like him, some don't. Wendle has performed very well in his short career, and was named the IBI's Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding year last season. The IBI's Jim Pete and Michael Hattery discuss why Wendle is a legit prospect and why he is criminally underrated.

Over the past few weeks, the idea of trading Michael Bourn has become a hipster approach both because of the market place that currently exists as well as his contract implications on the Indians over the next three possibly four years. The IBI's Michael Hattery has fluctuated in between camps regarding whether or not Bourn should be dealt, and in his latest Trend Spotting piece assesses his value in the market and to the Indians.

Trend Spotting: The value of David Murphy and closing doors
A guy like Murphy won’t exactly knock your socks off. He is what many would deem to be league average but for the Indians he offers legitimate value. The IBI's Michael Hattery takes a deeper look into the signing and makes his case how it is a good investment for the Tribe with how he can impact both the lineup and defense for a relatively small amount of money.
