Around the Farm: July 6, 2013

Joe Wendle continued his recent tear with a record-setting night at Carolina while Danny Salazar put together his latest brilliant effort on the mound. Plus, Nellie Rodriguez had arguably his finest night as a professional. The IBI's Steve Orbanek recaps these performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Orbiting Cleveland: Fixing the bullpen
The Indians have had a bit of an underwhelming week so far as the team was fresh off a four-game sweep over the White Sox but scuffled to a 1-2 record against the Royals. The culprit for the tough Kansas City series was the bullpen, which seems to become more and more unstable by the day. Are there any ways that the Tribe can improve the bullpen in order to stay in contention? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he ponders that thought in this week's edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Around The Farm: June 29, 2013
Each year, prospects rise and fall within the Indians system, and Joe Wendle can officially be classified as one of this year's biggest risers. Wendle had another brilliant performance Saturday as he recorded his fourth home run in his last eight games. Wendle was not the only player to impress though as Carlos Moncrief, Jose Ramirez and Juan Diaz all had strong nights at the plate. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps those performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Orbiting Cleveland: What's ahead for Scott Kazmir?
One of the best stories of the 2013 Indians season has definitely been Scott Kazmir. The left-hander is currently 4-4 and has looked absolutely dominant in his last two outings. He's proven to be a solid back-of-the-rotation arm, and he really is one of the better Indians minor league signings in recent memory. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he takes a look at Kazmir's season in the latest edition of the IBI staple, Orbiting Cleveland.

Notes from the Wigwam: Tribe wins two more series
The Cleveland Indians had a pretty solid week as the team went 4-2 and won their series against both the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins. Perhaps the biggest catalyst for the wins was second baseman Jason Kipnis, who just dominated and is now hitting .283 on the season. Other strong performances also came from Michael Bourn and left-hander Scott Kazmir. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on these performances and more as he looks back at the week that was in the weekly IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

There were a number of top performances as Jerrud Sabourin continued to impress as the undrafted wonder while Ronny Rodriguez showed why his prospect status continues to rise. Plus, utility man Cord Phelps continued to dig himself out from his early season slump. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he covers all these performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Orbiting Cleveland: The case to acquire Cliff Lee
It's hard to believe it, but we're now more than halfway through the month of June, which means the MLB Trade Deadline is just over a month away. While the Cleveland Indians trail the Detroit Tigers by four games in the American League Central, as long as the team maintains that pace, they should be buyers come the deadline. And who should the Indians look to buy at that point? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he offers his thoughts on the topic in the lastest edition of the weekly IBI staple, Orbiting Cleveland.

Notes from the Wigwam: Tribe shows improvement
The Cleveland Indians are starting to get back on the right track and went 4-2 this past week while earning series victories over the Texas Rangers and the Washington Nationals. Perhaps no players was more impressive than right-hander Corey Kluber, who went 2-0 in two starts and allowed just one run in 16 innings of work. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek he looks back at Kluber's performance and more in the weekly IBI staple, Notes From the Wigwam.

Orbiting Cleveland: The pleasant surprise of Corey Kluber

Notes from the Wigwam: Losses mount
The losses continue to mount for the Cleveland Indians as the team went 0-6 this past week and is now in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. Virtually nothing went right for the Indians, and the team is now 30-32 and 5 1/2 games behind the Detroit Tigers. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he regretfully revisits this past week in the latest edition of the weekly IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Orbiting Cleveland: Jimenez's resurgence continues
The Cleveland Indians begin a three-game series tonight against the Detroit Tigers. While it's only June, the series could prove pivotal as the Indians trail the Tigers by 2 1/2 games and have now gone 4-12 in their last 16 games. Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound for the Tribe tonight in what could be the closest thing to a must-win series that a team can have in June. Jimenez has been impressive as of late, but can that continue tonight? And will it continue over the course of the season? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he tackles that question in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Notes from the Wigwam: Bullpen woes take toll
It was a rough week for the Cleveland Indians as the team's left-handed bullpen options continued to let them down and played a key role in the team finishing 3-4. Of course, if there is a positive, it's the fact that the Detroit Tigers struggled as well during the past week and only lead the Indians by a half game in the American League Central. The Indians will attempt to get things back on track this week, but before they do that, take a moment to join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps this past week in the IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Orbiting Cleveland: The case for Cody Allen at closer
With Chris Perez's recent injury and Vinnie Pestano's struggles, the Cleveland Indians' bullpen has been in shambles. Manager Terry Francona recently announced that Pestano would assume closing duties in Perez's absence, but was it the right decision? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek for his weekly column, Orbiting Cleveland, as he makes the argument that it should actually be right-hander Cody Allen coming on in the ninth for the Indians.

Around the Farm: Memorial Day 2013
There's few better ways to celebrate Memorial Day than by taking in a good ole ball game, and all four of the Indians' minor league affiliates were in action on Monday. Bo Greenwell came a single shy of the cycle for the Carolina Mudcats while Justin Toole had a brilliant performance for the Akron Aeros. Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco was also on the mound for the Columbus Clippers. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps all these performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Notes from the Wigwam: Mistakes lead to rough week
It was a rough week for the Cleveland Indians as the team went 2-5 and lost several games that they probably should have won. The Indians are now 27-22 and trail the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. The Tribe is now in desperate need of a victory thanks to its poor performance over the past week, and the team will look to turn things around beginning today. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he looks back at the week that was in his weekly IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Around the Farm: May 25, 2013

Around the Farm: May 24, 2013
Three out of four Indians' minor league affiliates were in action on Friday night, and there was plenty of action to recap. Akron Aeros left-hander Matt Packer was among the night's most impressive performers as he pitched seven shutout innings and struck out 10 to lead the Aeros. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps Packer's performance and more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Orbiting Cleveland: Extending Michael Brantley
Few Cleveland Indians players have been as consistent as Michael Brantley this season as the left-landed hitter has provided quality offense and defense in almost every game he's played. With his value now at an all-time high, should the Indians now be exploring a contract extension? Also, how much would the Indians have to spend to extend Brantley? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he tackles both these questions in the weekly IBI staple, Orbiting Cleveland.
