Scrappers strand 15 runners on base in loss to Batavia
Friday night’s game in Batavia, NY started out looking like it would be an easy walk in the park for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers as they loaded the bases and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. From there, the bats went quite with runners in scoring position as the Scrappers left 15 runners on base in a 7-4 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs.

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled right-handed reliever Vinnie Pestano from Triple-A Columbus and have optioned right-handed pitcher Zach McAllister to Columbus.

Smoke Signals S7E19: First half minor league review
Our new bi-weekly format of Smoke Signals continues tonight at 11:00pm ET. In tonight's show IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis joins Smoke Signals regular Tony Lastoria to discuss the first half of the minor league season. With Single-A finishing off their All Star break and kicking off second half play on Thursday along with Triple-A and Double-A in the middle of their season, now is a good time to review how the season is going for several Indians players at the unofficial halfway point.

Lindor, LaHair lead Akron RubberDucks to 3-2 win against Reading
After finding themselves in an early 2-0 hole, the Akron RubberDucks rebounded with three runs in two innings to take a 3-2 victory against the Reading Fihgtin Phils. The RubberDucks were led by multi-hit games from three players, including five total bases from star short stop Francisco Lindor. Will Roberts picked up the win for Akron and Shawn Armstrong tallied his 10th save of the year.

Akron RubberDucks make use of long ball to top Reading, 4-3
The Akron RubberDucks managed just five hits compared to 11 for the Reading Fightin Phils, but still took the win, 4-3, Wednesday. Akron got the hits that counted as Jake Lowery, Anthony Gallas and Francisco Lindor each hit solo home runs. Joseph Colon picked up the win for the RubberDucks for a solid eight innings of work and Tyler Sturdevant got the save.

The Cleveland Indians today announced the signing of outfielder Bradley Zimmer to a minor league contract. Zimmer was the club’s first round (21st overall) selection in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

In this week's episode of IBI on Site we go to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley as host Hayden Grove sits down and interviews three Scrappers, right-handed pitcher Kieran Lovegrove, infielder Garrett Smith and outfielder D'vone McClure. He also talks to the IBI's Tony Lastoria to get his thoughts on what we will see at Mahoning Valley this year and which draft picks may find their way to Niles over the course of the season.

Jorge Martinez powers Mahoning Valley Scrappers to 10-inning win
I took an extra inning, but the Mahoning Valley Scrappers pulled through to beat the Jamestown Jammers, 2-1, Monday. Just four games into the year, both teams sport a .500 record after the contest. Scrapper Jorge Martinez powered the win with two solo home runs. The Scrappers were held to just four hits, but Martinez proved to be the difference they needed.

Six-run second inning does in Scrappers on the road
One inning can be everything in the game of baseball. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers found that out the hard way on Sunday afternoon in Jamestown, NY. The Scrappers surrendered six runs on five hits and were never able to recover, eventually falling to the Jamestown Jammers, 9-4.

Scrappers fall to Jammers in a pitcher’s duel, 4-1
What a difference one day can make in the game of baseball. One night after the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Jamestown Jammers put on an offensive display when each pounded out 14 hits, the combine to record 14 hits on Saturday night in a 4-1 pitching dominated Jammers victory.

Ducks quack louder than Dogs bark
In a match-up between the Eastern League's two first place teams, Akron right-hander Will Roberts filled the role of stopper, hurling six innings and allowing just one run to lead Akron to a 6-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs in the series opener at Canal Park on Friday.

Offense propels Scrappers to Opening Day win, 10-9
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers did not leave their offense in Arizona when they ended extended spring training. That offense was on display early and often on Opening Night as the Scrappers batted around the order and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on their way to a 10-9 victory.

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have activated first baseman Nick Swisher from the 15-day Disabled List and placed designated hitter Jason Giambi on the 15-day Disabled List with left knee inflammation.

Akron RubberDucks tally 16 hits in 12-6 loss to Binghamton Mets
The Akron RubberDucks managed to tally 16 hits, but still lost, 12-6, to the Binghamton Mets Wednesday. Three different RubberDucks tallied three hits in the game, but the scoring touch wasn't there when it mattered most, even though the team finished five for 15 with runners in scoring position. Binghamton tallied 12 hits in its winning effort.

Akron RubberDucks pounce for 10 runs against Binghamton
The Akron RubberDucks had the lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but tacked on seven runs in two frames to ensure their victory. Akron bashed the Binghamton Mets for nine hits to score its 10 runs as the RubberDucks drew six walks. RubberDuck starter Duke von Schamann moved to 3-0 on the season after tossing seven frames with four hits and two runs.

RubberDucks shutout by Senators, 8-0
Harrisburg right-hander A.J. Cole combined with relievers Paolo Espino and Neil Holland to throw a five-hit shutout against the Akron RubberDucks Saturday night, as the Senators cruised to an 8-0 win at Metro Bank Park. Three Harrisburg pitchers combined to blank Akron on Saturday.

Clippers take down Knights, 5-3
Carlos Moncrief broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, J.C. Ramirez was sharp out of the Columbus bullpen, and the Clippers beat the Charlotte Knights 5-3 on Saturday in the opening game of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark. The game was played in front of 10,402 fans - the third largest crowd in BB&T Ballpark history. It was also the 17th sell-out crowd of the season.
