The Lake County Captains (5-13) engaged in a late inning slugfest with the Kane County Cougars (9-9) and defeated the Cougars 11-8 on Monday afternoon. Captains’ starter Will Roberts and Cougars’ starter Kellen Moen continued the pitcher’s duel from Sunday with two and a half perfect innings to start the ballgame. Kane County capitalized on some fielding mistakes to take an early lead in the third.
GENEVA, IL- The Lake County Captains (4-13) opened a three game series at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark and fell victim to a 1-0 loss to the Kane County Cougars (9-8) on Sunday. The Captains started left-hander Elvis Araujo to face the Cougars. He allowed a single in the first inning to second baseman Daniel Mateo but was able to get an inning ending double play off the bat of third baseman Michael Antonio.
The Captains’ bullpen struggles continued on Saturday night as the Captains (4-12) dropped the rubber match 8-5 to the LumberKings (5-11). The LumberKings started the game with two runs in the first inning off of Captains starter Felix Sterling. Centerfielder Jamal Austin led off the game with a single and then stole second. Designated hitter Jabari Blash took a one out walk and then first baseman Ramon Morla singled to load the bases.
The Lake County Captains lost their seventh consecutive ballgame with a 7-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Monday night in front of 1,212 fans at Classic Park. West Michigan scored two runs off of Captains starter Felix Sterling in the first inning. Shortstop Eugenio Suarez coaxed a one out walk and then designated hitter Dean Green hit a two run home run to deep center field, his third of the season.
The Lake County Captains fell behind early against the Bowling Green Hot Rods and lost their fifth game in a row with an 8-4 loss at Classic Park in front of 2,172 fans. The Captains drew first blood off of left-handed starter Ryan Carpenter. Centerfielder Luigi Rodriguez led off the inning with a double to left field and then shortstop Francisco Lindor scored Rodriguez with an RBI single to right field.
The Lake County Captains opened the 2012 home schedule with their third consecutive loss in front of 4,388 fans at Classic Park, losing 5-2 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Hot Rods jumped out to an early lead against lefthander Elvis Araujo when designated hitter Jeff Malm hit a solo homerun to right field, his first of the year.
The Captains got the bats going early to give the pitching staff more than enough cushion to win the opening game of the three game series, 8-0. Right-hander Gustavo Gomez started the game for the Loons and the Captains started the game swinging again. Left fielder LeVon Washington walked to lead off the game and then shortstop Francisco Lindor singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. Right fielder Luigi Rodriguez singled to drive home Washington and the Captains led 1-0 after the top half of the first inning.
The Captains got rolling out of the gate on Saturday night and finished with a 9-1 win to take two out of three against the Fort Wayne Tincaps. LeVon Washington led off the game with a double down the left field line. Shortstop Francisco Lindor reached base on an infield single, moving Washington to third. Lindor stole second base and designated hitter Alex Monsalve walked to load the bases, and then third baseman Leonardo Castillo drove in Washington with a sacrifice fly to center field....
When the Lake County Captains open their tenth season as a franchise tonight on the road in Fort Wayne, Indiana, there will be a special touch to the management side of the team this season. Dave Wallace will take over the reigns of the Captains this season, replacing Ted Kubiak as manager.
