EASTLAKE, OH- The Lake County Captains (3-7) took advantage of three errors, seven wild pitches and two balks by the Dayton Dragons (3-8) to win the series opener by a final score of 10-4. The series opened with a matchup between lefthander Wandy Peralta (0-2, 8.10 ERA) for the Dragons and right-hander Luis Dejesus took the mound for the Captains.
The Fort Wayne Tincaps (5-3) used some early offense and solid pitching to drop the Lake County Captains (1-6) to their sixth straight loss by a final score of 9-1 on Friday night. The starting pitcher matchup featured two left-handed prospects from previous drafts. Max Fried (1-0, 1.00 ERA), the first round draft pick of the Padres in 2012, made his second start of the season for the Tincaps and was opposed by Ryan Merritt (0-2, 2.00 ERA) of the Captains, a 16th round pick by the Indians in the 2011 draft.
The Fort Wayne Tincaps (4-3) took advantage of three errors by the Lake County Captains (1-5) to build a 4-0 advantage before the skies opened up. The game was called after five and a half innings, giving Fort Wayne a 4-0 win. Lake County has dropped five straight ballgames.
The doubleheader between the Lake County Captains (1-4) and the Great Lakes Loons (2-3) scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The two games are being rescheduled for the weekend of Friday April 19th when the Captains return to Dow Diamond for another three game series.
MIDLAND, MI- The middle game of the three game series between the Lake County Captains (1-4) and the Great Lakes Loons (2-3) has been postponed due to bad field conditions and possible inclement weather. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) April 10th at 1:05 PM. The game will be seven innings as a part of a doubleheader to close the series.
The Great Lakes Loons (2-3) scored two runs in the seventh inning to drop Lake County (1-4) to their fourth consecutive loss by a final score of 5-4 after winning on Opening Day. The Captains sent right-hander Dylan Baker to the mound for the first time in 2013 to oppose Jonathan Martinez, a right-hander who is the 15th ranked prospect in the Dodgers organization by mlb.com.
The Lake County Captains (37-29, 68-67) scored four runs in the second inning and five runs in the fifth inning to open up a 10 run lead as they defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods (40-26, 78-58) by a final score of 11-4 on Thursday night. With the Captains win, their magic number for clinching a playoff spot is down to two.
The Great Lakes Loons took an early 3-0 lead and make it stick in a 4-2 win over the Lake County Captains on Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond. Lake County dropped their second straight ballgame. The Captains left nine men on base for a total of 20 in the two games in the series.
The Great Lakes Loons held the Lake County Captains to six hits, all singles in the series opener on Saturday night. Lake County left 11 runners on base throughout the game. Lake County is still tied with Fort Wayne for the first wild-card position.
The Lake County Captains (33-26, 64-64) and South Bend Silver Hawks (30-29, 65-64) managed a split of Thursday’s twinbill at Classic Park. Lake County escaped with an 8-5 win in the first game. South Bend took the nightcap with a 9-3 win.
The Lansing Lugnuts (29-25, 76-47) took an early 4-0 lead after the first inning and added to it while the pitching staff two-hit the Lake County Captains (30-25, 61-63) for a 10-0 win on Monday night. With the loss, Lake County snapped a three game winning streak.
The Lake County Captains (27-23, 58-61) came right out of the gates with six runs in the first four innings and the pitching staff threw a five hit shutout to back the offense up in a 7-0 win over the Dayton Dragons (21-28, 51-68) on Wednesday night.
