Mike MacDonald, Jason Urquidez, Brock Huntzinger and Michael Olmsted kept the Aeros quiet in the series opener at Canal Park, allowing just four hits and one run.

Bowie shortstop Manny Machado, one of the top prospects in baseball, homered, doubled and played slick defense Sunday, as the Baysox beat the Akron Aeros, 5-4, in the finale of a four-game series at Canal Park. Despite the loss, Akron finished with a 5-2 record during their seven-game homestand while maintaining a 9.5 game lead in the Eastern League Western Division.

Double-A Akron outfielder Nick Weglarz has battled the injury bug the past several seasons, and it eventually caught up to him last season and the start of this season as his offensive performance took a nosedive. But he has gotten stronger over the course of this season, remained healthy, and made a few adjustments with his swing that have resulted in much better play of late.

Matt Packer pitched seven innings and one-third innings of two-run ball in his second Aeros start of the season as the Akron Aeros beat the Erie SeaWolves, 4-2. The Aeros won for the eighth time this season against the SeaWolves as Erie lost its sixth game in a row. Akron now has a 9.5 game lead in the Eastern League Western Division.

After the Akron Aeros got on the board early in the first inning, the Bowie Baysox scored seven unanswered runs to defeat the Aeros, 7-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Prince George’s Stadium. Akron continued its struggles just games before the Eastern League All-Star break. The Aeros have now dropped nine of their last 12 games and have just a 2.5 game lead in the EL Western Division.

The Erie SeaWolves fought back from a three-run deficit, riding six unanswered runs to a 6-3 win over the Akron Aeros in the final game of a three-game series Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. The Aeros (50-37) lost two of three against the SeaWolves (42-43) to complete the first half of their current road trip.

Richmond left fielder Nick Liles hit a two-run single in the 11th inning to put the Flying Squirrels ahead, as the Akron Aeros lost 9-5 Monday night at Canal Park. Richmond grabbed an early lead in the first inning off Aeros starter Steven Wright and never trailed in the game. The Squirrels increased the lead to 4-0 after scoring three runs in the third, the first of which came from a homer hit by Richmond designated hitter Johnny Monell. Richmond added another run in the fourth to make the score 5-0.

Erie has dominated the season-series, winning nine of 14 games. Left-hander T.J. House has come back this season and rekindled his prospect status. It all started with his offseason workouts and his commitment to conditioning and nutrition, and it carried over from there to getting his mechanics in line and his command back on track. The result to date has been impressive, and Nathan Kemp recently had a chance to sit down and talk with him about his comeback season.

The Reading Phillies scored five times in the seventh inning Saturday night to break open a tie ball game, easing their way to a 7-2 win over the Akron Aeros at First Energy Stadium. With the score tied 2-2, the Phillies (36-27) batted around in the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits off Akron starter T.J. House (4-2, 3.55), including a solo homer by catcher Sebastian Valle and a two-run double by right fielder Leandro Castro.
