Akron shortstop Ryan Rohlinger had two hits, including a two-RBI single, as the Aeros beat the Trenton Thunder, 4-3, Saturday night at Canal Park. After losing the first two games of the best-of-four series against Trenton, the Aeros won just their second game in their last six.
Double-A Akron is cruising in first place as they now have less than two weeks until the end of the regular season. They are all but sure to be in the playoffs and they have several players on the roster that have played better of late. Akron starter T.J. House pitched just one inning and Erie designated hitter Tony Plagman had two doubles and an RBI as the SeaWolves beat the Aeros, 5-2, on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park. House (7-4, 3.72) walked the bases loaded to begin the game as the SeaWolves piled on four in the first.
First baseman Jesus Aguilar had two RBI’s as the Akron Aeros defeated the Reading Phillies, 10-4, Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.
With the win, Akron took two of three games against the R-Phils, lowering the team’s magic number for clinching the Eastern League Western Division to 10.

With the loss, the Aeros lost the series and the final game of their homestand. The series loss was the second on the current homestand. Akron remains in first place in the Eastern League Western Division.
Left fielder Thomas Neal hit his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth and righty Danny Salazar got his first career Double-A win as the Akron Aeros beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 8-3. Salazar (1-0, 3.72), making his second start for the Aeros, pitched five strong innings in his Canal Park debut.
Akron starter Paolo Espino pitched his fourth consecutive quality start and catcher Roberto Perez had two run-scoring singles as the Akron Aeros beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-1, Wednesday night at Canal Park. Espino (7-2, 3.02) continued to pitch shutdown baseball in the Aeros rotation, allowing just one run.
Portland third baseman Marquez Smith had two runs batted in while four Sea Dogs pitchers combined to throw a four-hitter, as Portland defeated the Akron Aeros, 3-1, Tuesday. Mike MacDonald, Jason Urquidez, Brock Huntzinger and Michael Olmsted kept the Aeros quiet in the series opener at Canal Park, allowing just four hits and one run.
Three Portland pitchers combined to throw a seven-hit shutout Tuesday, as the Sea Dogs squeezed by the Akron Aeros, 1-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Hadlock Field. The game’s deciding run for Portland came in the sixth off Aeros southpaw Giovanni Soto.
Bowie shortstop Manny Machado, one of the top prospects in baseball, homered, doubled and played slick defense Sunday, as the Baysox beat the Akron Aeros, 5-4, in the finale of a four-game series at Canal Park. Despite the loss, Akron finished with a 5-2 record during their seven-game homestand while maintaining a 9.5 game lead in the Eastern League Western Division.
Double-A Akron outfielder Nick Weglarz has battled the injury bug the past several seasons, and it eventually caught up to him last season and the start of this season as his offensive performance took a nosedive. But he has gotten stronger over the course of this season, remained healthy, and made a few adjustments with his swing that have resulted in much better play of late.
Matt Packer pitched seven innings and one-third innings of two-run ball in his second Aeros start of the season as the Akron Aeros beat the Erie SeaWolves, 4-2. The Aeros won for the eighth time this season against the SeaWolves as Erie lost its sixth game in a row. Akron now has a 9.5 game lead in the Eastern League Western Division.
