Professional baseball presents a constant course of inevitable challenges, but Nick Hamilton has overcome adversity since his toddler years. He has overcome a serious hearing issue as a child and is a prospect in the organization that he grew up with and loved, and the same organization his father is the play-by-play announcer for on the radio. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently sat down with him and shares his story...
The Cleveland Indians topped the Minnesota Twins with a 7-1 victory on Sunday, spotlighted by a seven-inning no-hit bid from starter Justin Masterson. Leading the charge offensively were Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley, who collected three RBI's each in the drubbing. Join the IBI's Stephanie Metzger as she recaps how the Indians avoided a sweep by the Twins at Target Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Cleveland Indians fell victim to a pair of defensive miscues, which proved costly in a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Errors and botched plays by Chisenhall, Cabrera and Swisher led to the Twins scoring three runs (two unearned), spoiling a dominant start by Tribe southpaw Scott Kazmir. Join the IBI's Stephanie Metzger as she recaps a frustrating loss by the Tribe.
The Lake County Captains accumulated four home runs at Classic Park on Thursday night but fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 9-7. Right-hander Luis DeJesus (3-9, 6.18) received the start for the Captains to counter Cedar Rapids’ righty Josue Montanez (3-2, 5.35).
The Lake County Captains dropped an extra-inning affair with a 12-inning 7-6 loss against the Cedar Rapids Kernels Wednesday night. Right-hander Dylan Baker (6-5, 3.26) took the bump for the Captains to counter Cedar Rapids’ righty Christian Powell (2-3, 5.68).

Last week wasn’t as glamorous for the Lake County Captains in comparison to others as they went 1-5. Three of their losses were one-run games and it was the bullpen that let the team down in most of the decisions. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recaps the Captains' week in her weekly notebook.
The stories that touch the heart are the ones that come from the heart. “The Sandlot” is clearly a film about baseball set in the 1960s, but its inspiration derived from a real-life experience. David Mickey Evans directed and narrated “The Sandlot” 20 years ago and is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the film with a tour of several ballparks, where the film is being shown. Included in this tour is Classic Park, home of the Lake County Captains. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently spoke with Evans to discuss the film.
The past week was a good one for the Lake County Captains as they went 4-1 since last Wednesday with one game suspended due to rain. Most notable is the team’s offense, which took off and scored a total of 41 runs during the last five games. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recaps the week that was for the Captains.
The minor leagues may be considered a place for adjustments and learning from mistakes but so far, Enosil Tejeda has mostly seen success. Tejeda, a 24-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, has been one of the double-A Akron Aeros’ most reliable bullpen arms since his promotion from high-A Carolina in May. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger talked with him recently and provides the details in her latest.
The Lake County Captains’ offense exploded for a season-high 21 hits during a 10-5 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday night. Right-hander Jake Sisco (4-6, 3.55) manned the mound for the Captains to counter Lansing righty Roberto Osuna (3-4, 4.20). Osuna was ranked the Toronto Blue Jays’ sixth top prospect by Baseball America for 2013.
The Lake County Captains suffered a four-game losing streak this past week, but have rebounded over the last three days winning three straight. The offense still struggles to produce runs, but the batting averages have collectively jumped. The starting rotation stepped things up as only one start was rough this week and the bullpen has done its best to keep the team within games. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recaps the week that was for the Captains...
Double-A Akron first baseman Jesus Aguilar was recently named to the Eastern League All Star team and is having a solid season producing big RBI numbers for Akron. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently caught up with him and talked about the adjustments he is making and what he needs to do to continue to grow as a hitter.
Second-half turnarounds are commonly mentioned in baseball, and the case is no different for the Lake County Captains. Since the All-Star break, the team has posted a 5-1 record with some solid outings from the starting pitching staff. The offense has added a number of home runs as they hit eight this past week, so it seems things may be starting to come together for the 28-45 squad.
