Dylan Baker (3-5, 4.08) was sent to the bump for the Captains to counter Dayton’s Nick Travieso (1-2, 6.75). Baker tamed the Dragons for a solid start with some help from his offense.
The first half of the Lake County Captains 2013 season is officially in the books and so far, it’s been a tough go for the guys. The team posted a 23-44 record in the first half, the worst in the Midwest League. The three-day All-Star break may be much needed for the team, with the exception of Logan Vick and Louis Head, who were nominated to the All-Star Team and headed to Dayton on Tuesday. The IBI's Stephanie Metzgere reviews the first half...
Routine is tough when toggling between a starting and relieving role, but Jordan Cooper has learned to focus on the things he can control. Since being promoted from High-A Carolina at the end of April he has put on several different hats for the Double-A Akron pitching staff, and the IBI's Stephanie Metzger gets us caught up on how things are going for him in Akron.
The Cleveland Indians completed a nine-game road trip with their second-straight win as they topped the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Wednesday. Wednesday’s win keeps Cleveland as sole owners of the second place slot in the American League Central, as they remain five games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers and a half game ahead of the third-place Kansas City Royals. Join Stephanie Metzger as she recaps Wednesday's win.
It was an ugly week for the Lake County Captains as they went winless since last Wednesday. The team dropped seven games and was rained out one evening, dropping their record to a league-worst 20-41. The offense continues to be problematic for the team and the starting pitching remains a nightly question mark. With the All-Star break approaching, perhaps a few days rest will be beneficial. Join Stephanie Metzger as she recaps the week in On-Deck with the Captains.
The Indians have been looking for a stopper as of late, and on Tuesday they found exactly just that in right-hander Corey Kluber. Kluber pitched brilliantly to lead the Indians to a 5-2 win, which also happened to stop an eight-game losing streak. Join the IBI's Stephanie Metzger as she provides all the play-by-play from what ended up being a critical Indians win.
Eric Haase may be from “The State Up North”, but his dedication rests within the Buckeye State. Haase hails from Westland, Michigan, just east of Ann Arbor. Though he’s from the land of blue and maize, he had plans to move to the land of scarlet and grey his senior year of high school. That was put on hold, though, after he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2011. Stephanie Metzger spoke with Haase recently about playing in Lake County, his decision to leave Michigan, and much more.
The Lake County Captains were on the road most of the past week, and it was a successful road trip as they crafted their first multi-game win streak with four straight. The team went 5-2 for the week, including a split double-header complete with a walk-off against Bowling Green last Wednesday and a series win in Dayton. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger gets us all caught up with her weekly Captains notebook...
It was a painful week for the Lake County Captains as they went winless since last Wednesday. The Captains’ offensive woes continue and their starting pitching screams of inconsistency. The team’s youth has made itself clear and once the short-season Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ season starts, some of the current roster may take a trip to Niles, Ohio for some fine-tuning. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger chimes in with her weekly notebook...
Canal Park received a makeover this past offseason with a brand new state-of-the-art video scoreboard, and Tyler Holt has put the video screen to good use. The Double-A Akron outfielder is a human highlight reel in the outfield crashing into walls and diving for balls, and it is that defensive ability and all out approach that has people taking notice.
The Cleveland Indians looked poised to win game three of a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, but a late defensive miscue proved to be the difference maker as the Indians fell 7-4. With the loss, the Indians fell to 27-21, and have now lost four of their last five games played. Join the IBI's Stephanie Metzger as she provides all the play-by-play and details from what proved to be a frustrating Saturday afternoon for the Indians.
