As bittersweet of an ending as it may be, you can officially close the book on the 2014 Indians. Brantley collects 200th hit; Indians fall to Rays, 2-0
Once upon a time, Tribe fans only knew Michael Brantley as a player to be named later. Six years later, they called him their most valuable player. Amidst loud chants of "MVP" around the ballpark Saturday night at Progressive Field, Brantley entered baseball record books by collecting his 200th hit of the season. The hit became the lone highlight for Cleveland in a 2-0 loss to Tampa Bay, in what was the final night game of the regular season.

Kluber, Indians blank Rays, 1-0; Tribe eliminated from playoff race
It's official. The lights above Progressive Field will not shine bright come October. But for one more night on Friday, Corey Kluber shined the brightest. Hurling eight dominant innings of shutout baseball, Kluber led the Indians in the series opener past Tampa Bay for a 1-0 victory. Indians playoff hopes stay alive; Tribe takes down Royals, 6-4
One win down...three to go. And then maybe, just maybe by some baseball miracle, the Indians will sniff the cool air of October. But that's for Oakland and Kansas City to decide. At least for now, the Tribe is still in the hunt for the postseason after a huge 6-4 win over the Royals Wednesday night. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps a big win from the ballpark.

Salazar struggles, more offensive woes in 7-1 loss to Royals
It was there for the taking. For the team that has clawed their way through a roller coaster of ups and downs all season, the ride just about came to a slow halt for the Indians Tuesday night. Offensive struggles continued and any hopes of a shot at October baseball were all but shattered, as the Tribe scampered to a 7-1 loss against Kansas City. Duffy, Royals blank cold Tribe offense, 2-0
You can't win if you can't score. Or can you? At least in one game on Monday, the Indians did just that. Making up the suspended game with the Royals originally played at Kaufmann Stadium back on August 31, the Tribe edged their division rivals for a 4-3 win. However, it was Monday's regularly scheduled game with K.C. that left a bad taste and lasting impact when the night was over.

Shaw's struggles continue; Indians fall to Detroit, 6-4
If Saturday was a nightmare for Bryan Shaw, Sunday became a horrific tragedy. Leading 3-2 in the seventh, the roar of the Tigers lineup became too much for both Shaw and the Indians for the second straight day. Backed by more timely hits, the Tigers swept Cleveland out of Motown in the series finale, by a 6-4 defeat at Comerica Park. Avila homer sends Tigers over Indians, 5-4
Clinging to a 4-3 lead with two outs in the eighth, Detroit's Alex Avila sent Cleveland to their most crushing defeat with one swing of the bat. The Tigers catcher connected on what became a game-winning two-run homer off Bryan Shaw, sending the Tribe to a 5-4 loss Saturday night. Price, Tigers trounce over Indians, 7-2
The price for a spot in the postseason continues to climb for the wavering Indians. Opening a crucial three-game series with division rival Detroit, Cleveland's woes offensively continued at Comerica Park Friday night. Behind a stellar start from lefty David Price, Tigers bats stole the show late, leading them to a 7-1 victory. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps the game from Motown.

Pitching helps Indians sweep doubleheader with Twins
Maybe it was a day off they needed after all. After rain forced the Indians and Twins to play a traditional doubleheader Thursday, the Tribe came out on top twice on a cool afternoon at Progressive Field, netting an afternoon sweep. Both ballgames, while different, were centered on the same recipe for success with more dominant starting pitching. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps a good day for the Wahoos at the ballpark.

Huge four-run fourth inning sends Twins over Indians, 4-3
They say baseball is a game of inches. Give Michael Brantley an extra inch on a sliding defensive play, and Trevor Bauer may have had himself a shutout Tuesday. Instead, the farther into September it gets, the farther it seems the Indians are fading out of contention. Opening up a three-game series with the last place Minnesota Twins, Cleveland was handed a tough 4-3 loss Tuesday night, thanks to a game changing fourth inning.

Salazar struggles; Angles rout Tribe, 12-3
Things were far from normal for the Indians Monday afternoon at Progressive Field. Well, at least on the pitching side of things. Making up a rained out game initially scheduled for June 18 against the first place L.A. Angles, Tribe starter Danny Salazar was tagged for six runs on eight hits through 4 2/3 innings, as the Wahoos fell to the Halos, 12-3.

For a season that has endured countless ups and downs, there has been one constant that has defined the Indians all year long. Pitching. Saturday night at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario was no different. Murphy's walk-off hit sends Indians over Chicago, 2-1
When it comes to walk-off wins, nobody in the American League does it better than the Indians. Activated off the disabled list just hours before first pitch Friday, outfielder David Murphy couldn't have had a better first at-bat back. Deadlocked with Chicago in a 1-1 tie in the 10th, Murphy notched a pinch-hit game winning single to center off reliever Maikel Cleto, edging the Tribe over the ChiSox, 2-1 in the series opener.

Detroit erupts for seven runs in extras, sending Tribe to 11-4 defeat
For the second straight night, the Indians blanked Detroit through nine innings of play Thursday. There's just one problem. The game went 11 innings, and two of the innings combined to result in 11 runs for the surging Tigers. Deadlocked in a 4-4 tie in extras, Motown scored seven runs on five hits in the 11th, rallying them to an easy 11-4 victory in the series finale.

Salazar tosses complete game shutout; Tribe blanks Detroit, 7-0
Six weeks ago Danny Salazar was wearing a Columbus Clippers uniform, pitching in Triple-A after a disappointing first two months of the season in the big leagues. He's since returned to the majors and hasn't missed a beat. Wednesday night against Detroit proved to be the right-hander's best start yet, hurling his first complete game shutout to help the Indians blank their division rivals, 7-0. Tigers comeback to stun Indians, 4-2 on Martinez's blast
Coming into 2014, J.D. Martinez hit a combined 18 home runs over the last two years with the Houston Astros. He's already slugged 19 this season now as a member of the Detroit Tigers. And his last homer Tuesday night was his biggest one yet. Trailing the Tribe by one in the ninth, the Tigers left fielder took closer Cody Allen deep for a three-run homer, helping Motown comeback to stun the Indians, 4-2.

Tigers, Cabrera rout Indians on Labor Day, 12-1
The last time David Price took the mound at Progressive Field, he was spraying silly string on his teammates as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in October. On Monday, he just made the Indians offense look silly. Scoring 12 runs on 20 hits, division rival Detroit routed the Tribe, 12-1 in the first game of a four-game series. Indians defensive errors give Houston a late 5-1 victory
The Indians have 99 problems, and all of them are errors. Knotted in a 1-1 tie with Houston in the ninth, two critical defensive errors by the Tribe cost them the series opener. Held to just one run on two hits all night, the Astros went onto score four runs in the inning, leading to a 5-1 victory. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps an ugly loss from the ballpark.
