Around The Farm: June 13, 2013
Despite being on the road, the Columbus Clippers and Akron Aeros got caught in the rain much like the rest of Northeast Ohio, seeing their games cancelled. The Carolina Mudcats and Lake County Captains were in action, though they did not provide much in the way of highlights. Despite the light night, one Carolina pitcher continued his recent push of success and up the prospect ladder. To find out who he is and all you need to know about the night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

Around The Farm: June 12, 2013
As we near mid-June, we can begin to look back at some horrible early-season performances and what players have brought their stats up to a respectable level. Some of it will be simple regression, but sometimes there is something more, maybe a tweak to a batting stance or changing where you stand on the rubber. Two shortstops both made adjustments earlier in the season and are enjoying much better results in June. A coincidence? Maybe. But most importantly, things look good now. To find out who these players are and all you need to know about Wednesday in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

Launching off with the Aeros: 6/4/13 – 6/10/13
With nine wins over the past two weeks, the Akron Aeros have almost climbed back over .500 for the first time since May 10. The recent hot streak moved the Aeros to only four games back of first place. The team has been a lot of fun to watch and is filled with players to keep an eye on. To read about who these players are, which toolsy outfielder was out of his mind over the past week, and everything else you need to know about the team, join Jim Piascik and go Launching off with the Aeros.

Akron bats go silent as Portland avoids sweep 4-1
After scoring 34 runs in the past four games, the Akron Aeros' offense finally calmed down as they lost to the Portland Sea Dogs 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The loss snapped Akron's five-game winning streak and dropped the Aeros to 31-32 on the year.

Tribe Happenings: Going big at the MLB draft
With Tony engrossed in coverage of the MLB draft, he called upon Jim Piascik to fill in on Tribe Happenings this week. Don't worry, it's only for one week. During this week's Happenings, Jim runs down why the selection of Frazier was the right one given the team's situation and what to make of yet another June swoon. He also takes a look at Carlos Carrasco rejoining the big league club as Zach McAllister hits the disabled list with a dreaded finger injury and much more.

Cooper efficient in return to rotation as Aeros win 4-3
The Akron Aeros extending their winning streak to five games Saturday night, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 4-3 at Canal Park. The win moves the team to 31-31 on the year as the Aeros got back to .500 for the first time since May 13. Akron starting pitcher Jordan Cooper -- who had not started a game since May 21 -- pitched effectively, holding the Sea Dogs to one hit and no runs in six innings.

McAllister put on DL, Carrasco recalled for Saturday start
The Cleveland Indians placed right-hander Zach McAllister on the 15-day DL with a right middle finger sprain and recalled right-hander Carlos Carrasco from Triple-A Columbus Saturday. McAllister's injury was first reported earlier in the week and MLB.com's Jordan Bastian tweets that this is not the same situation as when Adam Miller and Alex White saw their careers derailed. Calling up Carrasco now and starting him today will allow him to pitch while appealing his suspension for throwing at New York Yankees third baseman Kevin Youkilis in his first and only major league start in 2013 on April 9.

Around The Farm: June 6, 2013
On a night where all the attention is on the MLB draft and new addition to the Cleveland organization Clint Frazier, there was still plenty of action throughout the minor leagues. Not all was good -- Carlos Carrasco was scratched from his start -- but some, like Akron finishing a sweep, was. The focus from Thursday is on an IBI favorite, however, who simply catches our collective attention. To find out who he is and all you need to know from Thursday in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

Around The Farm: June 5, 2013
Baseball is a game of adjustments. The pitcher decides to throw a curveball after the batter hit his last fastball for a home run; a batter moves up in the box expecting an off-speed pitch; a shortstop moves toward second base because the batter has a knack for hitting the ball right back up the middle; any of these little shifts can change the outcome of a game. Sometimes players make big adjustments and it seems to lead to a breakthrough. To find out who might have made such a breakthrough and all you need to know about Wednesday in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

Launching off with the Aeros: 5/28/13 – 6/3/13
The Akron Aeros won four of their six games over the past week and moved to 26-31 on the season. The team remains in fifth place in the Western Division -- six games out of first place -- though the Aeros began to climb out of the hole they dug by losing 12 of 15 from May 13-May 28. The Aeros won with decent starting pitching, a mostly lights-out bullpen, and the continued emergence of a top prospect. To find out which top prospect is emerging and all you need to know about the team, join Jim Piascik and go Launching off with the Aeros.

Whitenack's continued troubles sink Aeros 8-1
The Akron Aeros fell behind quickly Sunday afternoon as starting pitcher Robert Whitenack once again faltered, starting the team down the road to their 8-1 loss against the Reading Fightin Phils. Akron (26-31) managed to leave FirstEnergy Stadium with a series win, though the team obviously would have liked to sweep Reading (21-33) over the weekend. The team remains six games out of first place after the Erie SeaWolves lost as well Sunday against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Moncrief looking to hone standout tools, fulfill dream
Most of us who play baseball video games dream of seeing our name and likeness as a part of the game. Unlike most of us, Akron Aeros outfielder Carlos Moncrief has a chance at achieving that dream. Moncrief is playing at the Double-A level for the first time in his career and is doing a good job, though he has room for improvement. When he is on, though, Moncrief really puts on a show -- something he enjoys doing. Jim Piascik recently spoke with Moncrief about taking over games, his impressive power, and what he has to do over the rest of the season to be successful.

Around The Farm: May 30, 2013
Jim Piascik was at Akron's 15 inning win Thursday night and he only has one thing to report from it: it was long. Outside of a relatively boring game in Akron, the Mudcats made a late charge at a victory, some Lake County players showed some power, and a Columbus outfielder displayed why he may be a major league option at some point in 2013. To find out all you need to know about Thursday in the minor leagues, join Jim as he goes Around The Farm.

Aguilar, Moncrief's late-inning heroics give Aeros 15-inning win
Down 2-1 in the ninth inning, first baseman Jesus Aguilar tied the game with an opposite field home run, just out of right fielder Steven Souza Jr.'s reach at the "It's A Whole New Ballgame" sign. After the two teams went six more innings, it almost literally was. The Akron Aeros (24-30) won 3-2 Thursday night in 15 innings, defeating the Harrisburg Senators (27-27) on a bases-loaded walk-off single by right fielder Carlos Moncrief.

Around The Farm: May 29, 2013
Things were busy on the farm Wednesday, with all of Cleveland's affiliates in action and Lake County completing a doubleheader. Great performances rolled in from throughout the system, with major league options impressing in Columbus, top prospects shining in Akron and Carolina, and a Lake County prospect hitting his first home run of the season. The headlines, however, belonged to a dominant Carolina pitcher and a returning reliever making his first appearance of the season. To find out who these players are and find out all you need to know about Wednesday in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

Launching off with the Aeros: 5/21/13 – 5/27/13
The Akron Aeros stumbled over the past week, dropping five of seven games and falling to a 22-29 record. After the team's recent string of losses, the Aeros are 10 games behind the Erie SeaWolves and only 1.5 games ahead of the last-place Altoona Curve. The Aeros may be fading, but that does not mean the entire team performed badly. A newly-added outfielder put on a show, a pitcher left his early season struggles far behind, and a top prospect just may be turning the corner. To find out who these players are and everything you need to know about the team, join Jim Piascik and go Launching off with the Aeros.

Urshela is focused on baseball and improving every day
When asked if he has any hobbies outside of baseball, Akron Aeros third baseman Giovanny Urshela said no. The focus is all on baseball for Urshela. The 21-year-old infielder is swinging the bat well, hitting .275 in his first 39 games at the Double-A level, though his on-base percentage is lagging behind. Urshela has a plan to improve that, though, as he looks to improve himself as a ballplayer every day.
