Looking at Danny Salazar's historical season
Before the 2013 season, the last impact starting pitcher Cleveland's farm system produced was Roberto Hernandez way back in 2007. Every elite-level starting pitcher since then was acquired from outside of the organization. That all changed in 2013 when Danny Salazar burst onto the scene. What Salazar did in his 10 regular season starts was nothing short of amazing. Jim Piascik delves into the numbers to show you just how amazing and what to expect from the right-hander in 2014.

Asdrubal Cabrera, plate discipline, and bouncing back
Asdrubal Cabrera was an All-Star in 2011 and 2012, yet when Cleveland finally made the playoffs in 2013, the shortstop had arguably the worst season of his career. With mega-prospect Francisco Lindor honing in on a major league spot and Cabrera only one year from free agency, many fans are ready to move on from the incumbent shortstop following his down season. Jim Piascik breaks down why Cabrera struggled offensively in 2013 and whether the shortstop can bounce back in 2014.

Envisioning Carlos Santana at third base
With Yan Gomes established as Cleveland's starting catcher in 2014, Carlos Santana has begun to work out at third base in the Dominican Republic. Finding a way to get Santana at bats away from the designated hitter spot is a good one, but one big question remains: Will Santana at third base be more harmful than helpful? Jim Piascik looks at that question and puts moving Santana to the hot corner in context.

Breaking down Axford: What went wrong and can it be fixed?
Team president Mark Shapiro continually hinted that Cleveland would sign a reliever with closing experience and that prophecy came true Sunday night, as the team agreed to sign former Milwaukee closer John Axford. The only reason Axford was available is due to his struggles in 2012 and 2013 following a dominant campaign in 2011. Jim Piascik analyzes Cleveland's new closer and what the right-hander needs to do to be successful in 2014.

Ranking the final 2013 Cleveland Indians' roster: Part two
Playoff baseball returned to Cleveland this year as Terry Francona and company surged to a 92-70 record and a berth in the wild card playoff game. That berth makes 2013 a success for Cleveland, even though the team lost in the one-game playoff. Given where this team was at the end of last year, the turnaround is just tremendous. As I do at the end of every year, here is part two of me ranking all 49 players who logged time for the big league club in 2013.

Launching off with the Aeros: The 2013 season in review
On the surface, calling a 68-73 season a success -- especially when that season follows a championship campaign -- would be ludicrous. In the case of the 2013 Akron Aeros, however, it would be true. While last year brought Akron an Eastern League championship, 2013 saw the arrival of numerous top prospects and brought the future one step closer to Cleveland. If you made it out to Canal Park this year, you saw the future of Cleveland. To recap that future and everything that happened in 2013, join Jim Piascik for one last time and go Launching off with the Aeros.

With the calendar turning to September, Cleveland remains in playoff contention with a 71-64 record. Sure, the team has its issues, but anyone would have taken this before the season. It is September 1 and Cleveland could make the playoffs. That's amazing considering where the team was last August. Join Jim Piascik as he ranks the roster in advance of the September callups.
