Around the Farm: June 27, 2014
It was the Mitch Brown and Ryan Merritt show on Friday night around the Indians farm system. As we are at the unofficial halfway point of the minor league season with the Single-A second half underway, short season ball having started and the Double-A and Triple-A All Star games looming, now is a good time to focus in on the Indians prospects who have really improved their stock to the industry not just with their performance but more importantly their development this season. After a two week hiatus because of the insane amount of time spent on the draft there past two weeks here at the IBI, the Happenings are back! In today’s report, the IBI's Tony Lastoria takes a look at the season that outfielder Tyler Naquin has had and the significant adjustment he has made which has led to a major improvement in an area of greatest weakness. With the Single-A second half set to kickoff tonight, I figured it was a good time to unveil another Coach’s Corner piece, so today we have a Q&A with Low-A Lake County hitting coach Shaun Larkin. The IBI's Tony Lastoria recently sat down with Larkin and talked about several players in the Lake County lineup. They discussed players such as Paul Hendrix, Nellie Rodriguez, Eric Haase, Anthony Santander, Clint Frazier, Josh McAdams, Grant Fink and more.

2014 MLB Draft: June 19th signing update
One thing that is great about the new CBA and the bonus pool system is how much better the signing process and how it gets an extremely large percentage of draft picks out and playing within two weeks of the completion of the draft. In today's signing update, the IBI's Tony Lastoria notes a newly signed player that came out of nowhere, updates on who is left that may sign and the ones that definitely won't, and also provides some comments from scouts on four of the Indians later round picks.

2014 MLB Draft: Post-draft Q&A with John Mirabelli Part 2
In part two of the IBI's Tony Lastoria's interview with Indians Director of Scouting John Mirabelli, he talks about the plans for players like Zimmer and Papi and what position the Indians plan to develop them at, their change in philosophy with drafting high school arms, how they manage the bonus pool while they are making picks and the difficulties that come with that, the importance of verbal commitments and getting players to stick to them, the team effort given to this draft by the entire organization and so much more.

2014 MLB Draft: June 18th signing update
The Indians nailed down two more high draft picks on Tuesday getting them to put pen to paper and officially releasing their signings. Also, news came out later in the day that another top pick had agreed to terms and for a well over slot bonus. The IBI's Tony Lastoria provides the details on the signings, where exactly the Indians are with their bonus pool, how much money is left over (if any) and provides a comprehensive listing of all 42 picks with who has signed, is not signing, is on the fence, is a summer draft and follow and more.

As he does after every draft, the IBI's Tony Lastoria had a chance to sit down with Indians Director of Scouting John Mirabelli and talk at length about a great many things pertaining to the Indians draft this year. They talked about a draft process that Mirabelli is very confident in that they have refined and why he thinks this Indians draft is different from previous years, some philosophy changes with their approach to drafting high school pitching, how they manage their bonus pool on the fly, why they were so sold on the players they picked on day one when they selected them, and much more.

2014 MLB Draft: June 17th signing update
The Indians have a lot of high profile draft picks in town this week to visit Progressive Field and be around the big league team and of course to finalize their contracts. One such high profile player officially came off the board on Monday as Justus Sheffield signed his deal with the Indians, and a few more should become official today or tomorrow. The IBI's Tony Lastoria provides updates on who is in town and also some other deals that have been finalized.

2014 MLB Draft: June 16th signing update
The IBI's Tony Lastoria is back in the saddle today after spending the last three and a half days at a state baseball tournament in Columbus.
