Burlington, VT- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers went into Monday night’s game in Vermont looking to salvage a win in the three game series and also looking for a .500 record on the road trip. The Scrappers got all the runs they would need in the top of the 4thinning and rode a Juan De La Cruz three run homerun to a 4-1 win in Vermont over the Lake Monsters.

The Scrappers offense was limited again for a third straight night but got all the runs they needed in the top of the 4th inning. With 1 out, Leo Castillo and D’Vone McClure both singled. Taylor Murphy would then follow with another single, scoring Castillo from second. De La Cruz would follow with his second homerun of the season, a three run blast to rightfield for a 4-0 lead.

Vermont would get their lone run in the bottom half of the 4th inning. Jose Brizuela would reach on a fielder’s choice with 1 out. John Nogowski’s ground out would move Brizuela to third with two outs. Max Kuhn would then single to score Brizuela.

Jordan Carter made his second career start and was outstanding once again. Carter went 4.2 innings allowing just 5 hits and 1 run. He struck out 2 and did not walk a batter. Luis Gomez would follow and went 0.2 inning and left after injuring himself while the game was played through a rainstorm. Gomez allowed 2 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 1. Luke Eubank (1-1) came on when Gomez left with the injury. Eubank went 2.2 innings to pick up his first professional win. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 2 without walking a batter. JP Feyereisen (3) would then work a perfect 9th inning for his 3rd save of the season. Feyereisen struck out 2 batters.

The Scrappers will now return home Wednesday night at 7:05 after a day off on Tuesday. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
