2012 IPI Site Update: What's on tap this offseason
October 22, 2012
I just wanted to pop in with a quick update about what is going to happen here at IPI over the next several months in preparing for the next season.
With the 2012 season now well behind us for the big league and minor league teams, and the conclusion of Instructional League a little over a week ago, the site has shifted its focus to the action in the Arizona Fall League, winter ball, and of course the news and developments occurring with the big league team and farm system this offseason.
The fall and winter leagues will be at the forefront of things here through the end of the year with daily “Around the Farms” recapping how every single Indians player participating in every offseason leagues does each and every night. At the end of each week Steve Orbanek will be providing a very nice weekly recap of all the winter ball action with news, notes, updated stats and other goodies from the week that was.
For the next several weeks there will be one to two “AFL Spotlight” pieces posted each week which will highlight the Indians prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League. Players to be featured include Trey Haley, Shawn Armstrong, T.J. House, Ronny Rodriguez, Matt Packer, Carlos Moncrief, and Tyler Holt and will include all sorts of updates and quotes from them during my recent visit to Arizona. I will also have a piece on former Indians’ minor leaguer Chris Jones - the guy traded for Derek Lowe last offseason - as he is with the Braves and playing in the AFL this offseason.
We will continue to provide coverage on the big league team with the two popular Indians columns “Tribe Happenings” and “Corner of Carnegie of Ontario” every Sunday and Wednesday respectively. In addition to those Indians columns we will be posting lots of news and opinion articles on the big league team relating to their coaching pursuit, free agency moves, the winter meetings, the Rule 5 Draft, and lots more. Also, the popular column “Then and Now” by Steve Orbanek will continue to post each week.
For premium subscribers, there will be a ton of material that will post over the next three months. Tomorrow I will have an in-depth AFL Notebook that will post and later today a new Radar Report will post and highlight a dozen pitchers I saw in the AFL and Instructs. Also, starting next week and through the end of the year at least three premium pieces will post each week:
- “Coach’s Corner” will post each Tuesday through the end of the year as I have over a half dozen articles lined up with different coaches up and down the organization providing in-depth knowledge and insight into several prospects in the system.
- “IPI Stock Watch” will post each Wednesday and will break down each affiliate and all the players that ended there and provide insight and commentary into whose stock went way up, trended up, stayed the same, trended down, or went way down this season.
- “Breakout Barometer” is a new premium feature which will post a few times this offseason. It will rank the breakout potential of prospects in several general areas of the organization: relief pitching, starting pitching, outfield, and infield.
- “Positional Breakdown” will post each Thursday and break down each position in the Indians’ system and provide insight into the strength of the position, who are the best prospects, group them into several categories, and lots more. It won’t be a traditional “ranking” by position piece, but it will definitely shed some light into the top players at each position in preparation for the IPI rankings coming out shortly after the new year.
Speaking of the IPI rankings, the new 2013 Indians Prospect Insider book has already been started and the hope is that I will have it finished by the end of December or in early January. In addition, the plan is to start the new 2012 IPI top prospect countdown in January shortly after the new year.
As you can see, things will continue to be quite busy here at the IPI with two to three pieces posting every day on the site throughout the offseason up until the start of spring training. A lot of this could not be done without the great staff that I have been able to put together here to continue to churn out high quality pieces on a regular basis, and of course to those of you who are premium subscribers because without your support and generousity this site would not exist.
You won’t find a more dedicated site covering the Indians from the big leagues to the minors year-round than here at IPI. Thank you for your continued support, and please, drop me a line at email@example.com with any comments or suggestions you want to share. Whether it is good or bad, I welcome any and all feedback!
