2012 Instructional League: Notebook Part 1
The 2012 Fall Instructional League season is over and the players have departed and gone home for the offseason. In fact, on my return flight back to Cleveland on Sunday a few players were on it with me.
I was out in Arizona for five days last week and saw several games involving the Fall Instructional League (FIL) team, the Arizona Parallel League (AZPL) team, and Arizona Fall League (AFL). There is a lot of baseball and a lot of different levels of fall ball that Indians’ minor league players are involved in at this time of the year, and I was able to see all of them play a lot.
The FIL team is constructed of mostly first and second year players from the last two drafts or players that were recent Latin signings or played in the Dominican Summer League and are expected to play stateside next season. The AZPL team is a more “advanced” team as these players are typically older and have been in the system for at least two years. The AFL players are the...
