In the 40th round of the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians have selected outfielder Anthony Hawkins out of Fresno High School (CA).
Date of birth: 10/12/1993 - Height: 5’10” - Weight: 220 - Bats: Right - Throws: Right
Quick take: He is set to attend Fresno City College if he does not sign a professional contract. He has strong and has good power, breaking the central section’s career home run record this season with his 35th homer.
Jeff Ellis: Anthony Hawkins might be the last pick in the draft, but he is a very interesting final pick. He has plus power, setting home run records in high school. On visuals alone he looks like a linebacker, not a baseball player. His hit tool needs some work, but the power is legit and he could be a guy who hits 30-35 homeruns in the majors. He has the type of power that even if he hits a ball a little off it can fly out of the park. He is pretty much destined for left field, but with his power that should not be an issue. He was viewed as signable since he is committed to a JUCO school. I wonder if the Indians can get a deal done as he is a guy they might be able to go slightly over slot for to sign if they have any money left after signing a few other players.
