With their 3rd round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians select right-handed pitcher Keiran Lovegrove out of Mission Viejo High School (CA).

Jon Sickels: 95th

Tony's quick take: After going with what was deemed by many as a safe and underwhelming pick with their first rounder, the Indians have come right back in the second and third round and taken too high upside pitchers out of high school that could be tough signs. Lovegrove is committed to Arizona State and had an inconsistent year this season, but there is a lot of projection in his arm and body. He is already in the low 90s and touching 94 MPH, and throws a developing slider and changeup. As with any young pitcher at this stage, he has some inconsistency issues with his delivery and velocity, and there are some durability concerns.
Jeff Ellis: Kieran Lovegrove is a big righty at 6'4" that is committed to Arizona State University. He throws in the low 90's and can have some sink. His low 80's slider is maybe his best pitch and his change is solid, so you are looking at a solid three pitch mix. He is a native of South Africa and has founded his own baseball related nonprofit to make sure every child has a chance to play baseball, and is known to have a very fun twitter account. His makeup is off the charts. The only question is that his velocity has been extremely up and down. He needs a little work on mechanics and to get stronger, but if he does get stronger and can iron out the mechanics then he has 2/3 upside to me. Nice value and an interesting arm to land in the third round, with a lot of upside.
