2012 Indians 34th round pick: Catcher Matthew Fultz

In the 34th round of the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians have selected catcher Matthew Fultz out of Lee’s Summit West High School (MO).
Date of birth: 7/28/1993 - Height: 6’1” - Weight: 215 - Bats: Left - Throws: Right
Quick take: Fultz has a commitment to attend college at Kansas State. He has a big, durable frame and shows some good catching skills behind the plate with how he received, blocks, and moves. His defense is probably ahead of his offense right now, but at the plate he has a line drive approach and makes good, solid contact. He shows a quick bat, some bat speed, good plate coverage, and some pull side power.
Jeff Ellis: Matt Fultz is another talented player the Indians are drafting late and hoping to be able to convince to sign for around slot. He should have gone a lot higher thanks to his ability to be a catcher to go along with legitimate left handed power. There were some doubts about his conditioning this year, which hurt him, yet there is little doubt that he will generate power to all fields. He was considered a signable high school player going into the draft, and maybe the Indians will get lucky and get a deal done.
