In the 28th round of the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians have selected third baseman Joshua Pigg out of Franklin High School (CA).
Date of birth: 11/9/1993 - Height: 6’1” - Weight: 175 - Bats: Left - Throws: Right
Jeff Ellis: The Indians drafting of Joshua Pigg was doubly interesting to me. First he was a guy who was well thought of and a real known talent. Secondly, some teams thought he was a better pitcher while others thought he was a better bat. The Indians decided his upside was best served at third base, and that if he signs he will go forward as a hitter. I for one agreed with the Indians and thought that this athlete was best served as a hitter. He is a quick twitch guy with a lot of athleticism who could end up being a real steal this late. He reminded me a bit of Indians prospect Carlos Moncrief, another raw athlete who was tried as both a hitter and a pitcher. This is the 863rd pick in the draft and the Indians got a guy who has upside, and is considered signable. I am not sure if he is still signable at $100K, but most contracts have clauses were the team will pay for college, so that is nothing to sneeze at.
