In the 24th round of the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Thomas Walker White out of South Georgia College.
Date of birth: 11/9/1991 - Height: 5’11” - Weight: 185 - Bats: Right - Throws: Right
Quick take: White features an 88-90 MPH fastball that touches 92 MPH, and complements it with a curveball and slider. In 12 games this year he went 4-7 with a 3.22 ERA, and in 67.0 innings allowed 71 hits, 38 walks, and had45 strikeouts.
Jeff Ellis: Thomas White is a sophomore pitcher out of South Georgia. He is on the smaller side at 5'10", which often means that the player will be groomed for the bullpen. He has primarily been a starter who had a nice 3.49 ERA and a good strikeout rate, though his walk to strikeout rate is almost 1:1 which shows he might be a nibbler on the mound and/or lack command. He is another JUCO guy the Indians are drafting and hoping to sign, so they must really like him to take a risk on a guy whose size might have put off a lot of teams. I mean, if you don't think size is an issue, look where Stroman went in this draft.
