2012 Indians 13th round pick: OF Tyler Booth

June 5, 2012

With their 13th round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians select outfielder Tyler Booth out of Central Arizona College.

Birthdate: 10/27/1992--Height: 5'11"--Weight: 160--Bats: Left--Throws: Right

Jeff Ellis: Tyler Booth is a 5'11" OF, who also is a left handed pitcher.  He played for Central Arizona College, but had previous been committed to Arizona State, so he was well thought of coming out of high school. The Indians drafted him as an outfielder, and he is a guy with above average speed.  He has put up some great stats on the junior college level, where he hit 331 with 9 homeruns as a freshman. He might be a harder sign since he is only a freshman.  I think he might profile as a 4th outfielder type down the road with good speed.

This draft so far the Indians take 3 banjo hitting outfielders who bat left and throw right. Is Brad Grant dyslexic? When he looks at the Indians lineup does he see all right handed hitters and left handed starting pitchers? And they love the Tylers if there aren't any Trevors, Jasons, Justins, Connors available.. They make look good chewing tobacco but none of these slap- hitting poseurs are going to take the Indians to the post season. So far I like the Korean American pitcher, the Alaskan pitcher, and the big black kid with the cool name. He's the only position player we drafted that looks like he could stare down Justin Verlander.
