2012 Indians 11th round pick: OF Logan Vick

June 5, 2012

With their 11th round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians select outfielder Logan Vick out of Baylor University.

Birthdate: October 22, 1990--Height: 5'11"--Weight: 195 lbs--Bats: Left--Throws: Right

Ranks:

Baseball America: 259
Perfect Game: 159

Jeff Ellis: Logan Vick is that sparkplug hitter the Indians love. He is reminiscent of Jordan Henry and Tyler Holt in that respect and they seem to draft a guy like this in every draft. He is a great value at this point and really had a breakout year. The previous season he hit .213, while this year he hit .346. He has a good eye for the zone, but can also be aggressive when needed. He showed gap power leading his team in doubles, but will never have home run power.  He is a good athlete and was an all state kicker in Texas. The question is what is his position as he has been talked about in the outfield, third base, and second base.  In the 11th round he is an interesting player who managed to adjust to the new bats and might have some growth potential. His high energy approach, combined with his plate discipline, would make him a great addition to the Indians minors.

Jim's Quick Take: From watching a quick bit of video, this kid can play some outfield. He looks like he has some good speed, and has played some infield as well in his past. Just from looks, this kid reminds me a lot of Tyler Holt, but many scouts have him in that Kipnis-esque role...moving him to second base. Either way, he is a spark plug.

Extra info: First team All-Big 12 in 2012…Hit .344 with 25 2B, 2HR, 39RBI, 17 SB in 2012 (.436OB%).
