Jeff Ellis: Shawn Armstrong is a big pitcher on who has the best stuff on a very good East Carolina staff. The ace of his staff was drafted already, but Armstrong should be the better pitcher. Armstrong has been tried as a starter and in the pen, but just never has found any consistency. The problem is if inconsistency was considered a tool, then Armstrong would have a plus plus plus grade. When on he is near unhittable, but the problem is he is rarely on. He has been so inconsistent he was PG Crosscheckers player on the decline for North Carolina. Armstrong is 6’5” with a fastball that peaks at 96 along with a cutter that is in the upper 80’s that really contrasts nicely with his fastball. He has the skills to be a major league player, but the question is can he be coached and fixed so that he will make it to the bigs some day.
