The charismatic enigma, Chris Perez, was allegedly at it again today. In a Cleveland Indians story that can only belong to Chris Perez, the Rocky River Police are allegedly investigating Chris Perez for acquiring a substantial amount of narcotics that shall not be named yet. Yes folks, he received it in the mail. Join Jim Pete at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario as he takes another look at Chris Perez, and the alleged allegations.
The 2013 MLB Draft commences in just a little over 24 hours. With that in mind, Tony sat down with Indians Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant to discuss a myriad of topics going into the draft. They talked about the talent in this year’s draft, their plans with the fifth pick, their philosophy changes over the years, some adjustments they have made to their scouting of starting pitching, the process of setting up their draft board, what they do the week of the draft to get prepared for it, the decision making process, and so on.
The Lake County Captains were on the road most of the past week, and it was a successful road trip as they crafted their first multi-game win streak with four straight. The team went 5-2 for the week, including a split double-header complete with a walk-off against Bowling Green last Wednesday and a series win in Dayton. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger gets us all caught up with her weekly Captains notebook...
According to reports, Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez is being investigated by Rocky River police for drug possession. No official arrest has been made, and it is believed to be for possession of marijuana.
A four-run third inning by Scott Kazmir was the lone blemish in eight otherwise decent innings by the Indians pitching staff, but the offense was never really able to get on track all night - partly thanks to some brutal umpiring behind homeplate all night. The IBI's Jake Dungan recaps another tough loss for the Indians as they dropped their 11th game in 15 tries.
There were plenty of top performances to recap Tuesday night in the Indians organization as both Akron and Columbus earned victories. Ezequiel Carrera went an impressive 4-for-5 at the plate while Lonnie Chisenhall continued to dominate and rake at the Triple-A level. Join the IBI's Arthur Kinney as he recaps their performances and more as he takes you Around the Farm.
Cleveland Indians outfield prospect Josh McAdams has been in the organization for close to a year now. Around this time last year he was selected in the 7th round of the draft straight out of Calhoun High School in Georgia, and has enjoyed the ride since signing with the Indians. He brings a ton of power potential with his bat and arm, and Tony recently had a chance to sit down and talk with the talented youngster.
The 2013 MLB Draft is a little over 48 hours away and teams are beginning to lock in on their first round plans. IBI Draft guru Jeff Ellis posted his first mock draft two weeks ago, but as with any mock, things change the closer we get to draft time, so here is a new and updated mock draft including lots of detail and insight into each pick in the first round.
The Akron Aeros won four of their six games over the past week and moved to 26-31 on the season. The team remains in fifth place in the Western Division -- six games out of first place -- though the Aeros began to climb out of the hole they dug by losing 12 of 15 from May 13-May 28. The Aeros won with decent starting pitching, a mostly lights-out bullpen, and the continued emergence of a top prospect. To find out which top prospect is emerging and all you need to know about the team, join Jim Piascik and go Launching off with the Aeros.
The Indians' tough nearly month-long stretch of games continued on Monday as they traveled to New York behind their ace. Said ace turned in a rare poor start, an All-Star likely hobbled his way onto the disabled list, and the team's struggles against the Yankees and the American League East in general continued. All of that added up to a loss and Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the game...
Smoke Signals is back on the cyberwaves tonight from 10:00pm – 11:00pm EST. In tonight's episode, Tony and Jim discuss the Indians struggles through their month long stretch of games against playoff caliber opponents and the positive and negative effects their current nine-game road trip through New York, Detroit and Texas could have the rest of the way. They also discuss the continued problems with the left-handed relief, the injury to Asdrubal Cabrera, the rebirth of sorts of Ubaldo Jimenez, some minor league talk and tons more!
There were a lot of interesting back-stories in Monday's minor league games. Would Lonnie Chisenhall continue his hitting streak, which was currently sitting at 12 games? Could Shawn Morimando continue his scoreless innings streak after winning the Carolina Pitcher of the Week award? Would Tyler Naquin continue his multi-hit game streak alive? Join Jim Pete for Monday's ATF to find out the answer to those questions, and much, much more.
Mark Teixiera blasted a grand slam in the third inning off a struggling Justin Masterson as the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians, 7-4, in the opening game of a three-game series. With the loss, the Indians fall a full game behind the Detroit Tigers, who had an off day.
After struggling to the tune of a 3-6 start to the season, the Crushers managed a .500 week, taking two of three from Florence and one of three from Joliet over the weekend. The team is now 6-9 on the season, but is still trying to find a level of consistency. The IBI's Kyle Ferrara shares the details in his weekly Crushers notebook.
The 2013 MLB Draft is three days away and MLB organizations are getting anxious as they make last minute preparations for what is a big day for every team in the league. No one knows the draft better than IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis except for those personnel involved with MLB teams, and he has put together his second big board of the Top 33 players in the draft and provides some insight and commentary on each.
It was a rough week for the Cleveland Indians as the team's left-handed bullpen options continued to let them down and played a key role in the team finishing 3-4. Of course, if there is a positive, it's the fact that the Detroit Tigers struggled as well during the past week and only lead the Indians by a half game in the American League Central. The Indians will attempt to get things back on track this week, but before they do that, take a moment to join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps this past week in the IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.
