A deeper look at Yan Gomes
As the Indians season comes to an end, they find themselves in an enviable position when it comes to their depth at catcher. Coming into this season the Indians seemed to be set for the foreseeable future behind the plate with the heavy hitting Carlos Santana and looked to be in good shape at one of the most important positions on the diamond. Then, without warning, Yan Gomes happened. IBI newcomer Matt Rose opines in his debut piece about how valuable Gomes was in 2013 and how the catching situation is even more enviable.

It appears as if the foundation is now set for this team to be a contender for years to come. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he offers his perspective on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Trend Spotting: Finding the value gap, position by position
When a team goes from a 94 loss season to a 92 win season there are going to be a collection of production increases at multiple positions. Today, in brevity the IBI's Michael Hattery looks at the positional production team wide using surface statistics to show the difference from 2012 to 2013. This is a great read and shows how the Indians made marked improvement in 2013 and where they can look for creative opportunities to improve in 2014.

Cleveland heartbreak: Indians shutout to halt postseason run
For a city that has endured countless pain and suffering when it comes to sports teams, Wednesday night at Progressive Field simply added more heartbreak. The Indians first trip to the postseason in six years ended before it really started, as the Tampa Bay Rays behind the arm of 25-year old right-hander Alex Cobb shutout the Tribe, 4-0 to win the one-game wild card playoff, ending Cleveland’s season.

The Indians and the Rays - A tale of two franchises
Tonight, two teams will battle for the wildcard and earn the right to play in the American League Division Series this weekend at Fenway Park. The IBI's DJ Sebastian thought it would be insightful to compare and contrast those two teams from a slightly different perspective and he does so as only he can. A nice read looking at the history, fans, makeup, managers, and how each team got to where they are today.
